Have you ever visited an olfactory gallery in which you are encouraged to smell the art? You are about to have your chance. Our next Untapped New York Insider event invites you to wade your way through Olfactory Art Keller’s collection of scent art. This unique gallery, which opened its doors in February 2021 in New York’s Chinatown at 25 Henry Street, presents artists who create perfumes. Olfactory Art Keller has so far curated seven exhibitions, including the current “New York/New Fumes”, which features never-before-seen creations by 21 New York-based olfactory artists. The event will be led by Andreas Keller Ph.D., gallery director and author of “Philosophy of Olfactory Perception”.

Discover the highlights of seven exhibitions of contemporary olfactory art. Keller Scent Art Tour

Olfactory Art Keller encourages artists to create scent art and collectors to collect it. The gallery offers an exhibition space for olfactory objects, experiences and performances, as well as technical and logistical support for artists to work with smell. Keller is an academic who studies different aspects of olfactory perception. He taught smelling to students at City College and Columbia University.

The gallery has held seven exhibitions to date, including the current one, New York/New Fumes, which has invited 21 artists to contribute a single new fragrance. Past exhibitions have included Ten Encounters, in which Saskia Wilson-Brown of the Institute for Art and Olfaction invited 10 artists to explore the encounters between two individuals who have shaped culture to this day; Scents of Exile, in which Brian Goeltzenleuchter interviewed refugees and immigrants about their olfactory memories of home; and /Forest Bath, which brings forest and forest bathing directly to the city.
